Caretaker Labor Minister Salim Jreissati stressed on Wednesday that there would not be any discharge of any employee from the KVA service provider company without referring to the Labor Ministry.
“Agreement has been reached with KVA management to abide by the law, mainly article 50 of the labor law, which bans discharging employees before consulting and discussing the matter with the labor ministry,” said Jreissati in a TV appearance after meeting with KVA officials.
He called on all contract workers to resume their work.
Electricite du Liban contract workers blocked the Dora Highway on Tuesday after KVA's decision to sack 62 workers, but decided to reopen it when Jreissati showed a goodwill gesture to follow up on the case with KVA provider.
On the backdrop of Jreissati's calls, member of the EDL contract workers follow up committee, Bilal Bajouk announced that employees have resumed work and stressed that the “committee will follow up on the matter with related authorities.”
