Robbers of Cars Used in Haret Hreik, Hermel Explosions Arrested

Security forces arrested on Tuesday the robber of the car that exploded in the Beirut neighborhood of Haret Hreik, and the person that stole the booby-trapped vehicle that targeted the eastern town of Hermel earlier this month.

"Security forces detained both robbers of the cars used in Tuesday's explosion and in Hermel's blast,” al-Jadeed television reported.

MTV confirmed the news, identifying the man who stole the car used in the Haret Hreik explosion as Nabil Ahmed al-Moussawi.

"The judicial police's International Anti-Theft Bureau arrested al-Moussawi,” it said.

Al-Jadeed later revealed that al-Moussawi confessed to stealing several Kia cars, among them the vehicle that was used in the Beirut suburb's explosion.

Future TV added: "Al-Moussawi confessed to stealing both the cars that exploded in Hermel and Haret Hreik and revealed that he had sold them to Maher Tleis, who in turn took them to Syria."

Later on Tuesday, al-Jadeed said "the relatives of the Kia cars' thief Nabil al-Moussawi have disavowed his acts and urged the state to inflict the maximum penalty on him."

A car bombing targeted on Thursday the eastern town of Hermel, a Hizbullah stronghold, killing one person and wounding more than 26.

Meanwhile, at least four people were killed on Tuesday in a suicide bombing that rocked Beirut's southern suburbs.

A group calling itself al-Nusra Front in Lebanon, believed to be a franchise of the Syrian al-Qaida-linked group, claimed responsibility for both attacks.
