Security forces were on Monday investigating the death of a toddler in the northern city of Tripoli after a private hospital allegedly refused to treat him for a severe respiratory illness, the state-run National News Agency reported.
NNA and Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) said Mustafa Farouq Dawwash, 18 months, died at dawn Monday after his parents failed to find a room for him at a Tripoli hospital.
But the director of the state hospital in Tripoli's al-Qobbeh area, Nasser al-Adra, said the baby was in the hospital's ER and was receiving treatment.
He later died after his health deteriorated, al-Adra told VDL.
The director denied that he had any information about the rejection of a local hospital in northern Lebanon to treat the boy.
The medical examiner will issue his report on Monday to verify the cause of death, he said.
