Abboudieh, Arida Crossings Closed

The al-Abboudieh and al-Arida crossings with Syria were closed late on Saturday amid conflicting reports about the authorities requesting these procedures.

OTV said al-Abboudieh and al-Arida crossings were closed following a decision taken by concerned Lebanese authorities.

However, MTV reported that Syrian authorities abruptly closed both crossings with Lebanon, which are the two legal passages between the neighboring countries.

These border developments come hours after a deadly suicide explosion hit the Bekaa town of Hermel.

The attack was claimed by a Syrian al-Qaida-linked group, al-Nusra Front in Lebanon.

Also on Saturday, shelling from Syria on northern Lebanese towns renewed in the evening, creating a tensed atmosphere among the residents of border regions.

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati released a statement after these border attacks, revealing that he contacted the Army Commander in this respect.

"We asked for adopting all necessary procedures to deal with this situation,” the statement detailed.
