Rifi: Hizbullah Sought to Use Interior Ministry Portfolio to Obstruct Govt. Formation

Former Internal Security Forces chief Ashraf Rifi accused on Saturday Hizbullah of obstructing efforts to form a cabinet and of obstructing the functioning of the state.

He said in a statement: “Hizbullah has become addicted to obstructing the functioning of the state and it sought to turn the Interior Ministry portfolio into an obstacle in forming a government.”

“The truth is that Hizbullah is the real obstacle for the entire country,” he remarked.

“I will not grant it the satisfaction of enjoying its new attempt at obstruction,” he continued.

“I will not be part of the problem facing the formation of the cabinet, but we are part of the solution sought by former Prime Minister Saad Hariri,” Rifi stressed.

The March 14 camp's support for Rifi to assume the Interior Ministry portfolio in the new cabinet was seen as the latest obstacle in the government formation process.

The March 8 camp had rejected his nomination amid reports that Mustaqbal MP Nouhad Mashnouq has been proposed as his replacement in an agreement that will likely pave the way for the formation of a new cabinet on Saturday.
