MP Mohammed Raad, the head of Hizbullah's Loyalty to Resistance parliamentary bloc, reassured Sunday that the party will not “betray our people's national dignity” through its participation in Prime Minister Tammam Salam's cabinet, which was formed Saturday after an 11-month impasse.
“We demanded an all-embracing cabinet because the others wanted an eliminationist, neutral and de facto cabinets,” Raad said during a memorial service in the southern town of Aitaroun.
“The country is living a crisis, as the longest cabinet formation process in Iran did not exceed 10 days while it took us 10 months to form our cabinet in Lebanon, and the reason is that in Iran there is domestic stability, constants, principles, a wise and sober-minded leadership and officials who are under the law and who abide by (Islamic) Sharia, constitution, principles and constants,” Raad said.
He lamented that “we are in a country where the other camp does not have any constant principles.”
“That's why we need more patience in judging things,” Raad added.
“We will not betray the national dignity of our people who showed endurance throughout 33 days in the face of the Zionist enemy, until they defeated it and foiled its objectives. We will not betray their dignity through this domestic act and the acceptance of such a cabinet,” the Hizbullah lawmaker underlined.
He pointed out that “some parties in Lebanon want to achieve a certain goal, but we want to thwart it through this method of confrontation,” Raad added, referring to Hizbullah's participation in the new cabinet.
“As long as we have the correct vision and approach to achieve these objectives, no one will be able to harm the dignity, pride and right of our people to sovereignty and independence,” the Hizbullah MP added.
“Those claiming to be keen on sovereignty and independence receive their orders from behind the borders, and when orders come, they cannot reject them, because they are subservient to the will of others,” Raad said.
