Six Dead in Car Bomb at Turkey-Syria Border Post

At least six people were killed when a car bomb exploded at a border crossing between Syria and Turkey on Thursday, a Turkish official told Agence France Presse.

The official said the bomb detonated on the Syrian side of the Bab al-Salama crossing, adding that 45 people were wounded.

He said the injured were taken to a hospital in Turkey's Kilis province on the border.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitoring group, also reported the bomb blast, but said five people were killed.

The Syrian side of the crossing is under the control of Islamist rebels who have been battling jihadists from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant since early January.

ISIL has regularly targeted rival rebel brigades with car and suicide bomb attacks.

The attack is not the first time border crossings between Turkey and Syria have been targeted.

In January, at least 16 people were killed in a double suicide car bombing at the Bab al-Hawa border post in northwestern Idlib province.
