Phalange: Policy Statement Must Be Able to Combat Terrorism, Restore Stability in Lebanon

The Phalange Party urged on Monday the political factions to speed up their efforts to come up with a government policy statement.

It said after its weekly politburo meeting: “The statement should be able to confront political, security, and economic problems, combat terrorism, and help restore stability in Lebanon.”

“Tackling the policy statement should not take place at the expense of the state,” it remarked after its meeting that was headed by party leader Amin Gemayel.

Commenting on the latest bombing in Lebanon, the party called on all political powers to entrust the army in its mission to protect the country.

It condemned the blast, while expressing its pride in the popular and political support the army has garnered.

On Saturday, three people were killed, including two soldiers, and 16 wounded, including five soldiers, in a car bombing at an army checkpoint in the Bekaa region of al-Hermel.

Hermel, a Hizbullah stronghold, has seen multiple attacks in recent months related to the war raging in neighboring Syria.

Until Saturday, the attacks had all killed civilians.
