Fletcher Kicks Off Tour in Akkar

British Ambassador to Lebanon Tom Fletcher kicked off on Tuesday a tour in border towns in the northern Akkar province.

Fletcher arrived in Akkar aboard a Lebanese army helicopter that landed in the Qlaiaat airport in the North.

He was accompanied by the military attache at the British embassy.

Media reports said that Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji also accompanied Fletcher.

The tour includes towns of Shadra, Endqet, Monjez and al-Abboudiyeh.

The Syrian air force has regularly carried out air strikes with war planes and helicopters targeting rebel positions around Akkar.

Bekaa towns, with a majority of Shiite population, have repeatedly come under rocket attacks by either rebels seeking to topple Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime or armed men supporting them.
