One policeman was killed and eight others, police and civilians, were wounded in an explosion in southwestern Colombia suspected to have been carried out by leftist rebels.
As police returned from responding to a fight Sunday night in the town of Guapi, they were attacked in the town's outskirts with an explosive device, sources confirmed Monday.
Police said that the method of attack indicated it could have been carried out by the FARC.
The episode killed a patrolman and wounded two other police and six civilians.
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia have been fighting the country's successive governments since the 1960s and are Latin America's longest-running insurgency.
The FARC has been in peace talks with the government for more than a year but continues its armed attacks in the absence of a ceasefire agreement.
