The Mustaqbal bloc criticized on Tuesday Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour’s trip to Syria on Sunday, saying that it is reminiscent of the “hateful” days of Syria’s hegemony over Lebanon.
It also praised in a statement after its weekly meeting: “Parliament’s approval of a law on its maritime borders, which will help facilitate and speed up the steps needed to pave the way for drilling for oil in the Mediterranean Sea.”
“This step complements the efforts that had been previously launched by the governments of slain former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and former Premiers Fouad Saniora and Saad Hariri,” it stated.
The bloc therefore called on pro- and anti-government forces to cooperate in investing in Lebanon’s resources that will benefit the country’s higher national interests.
It also urged the officials to continue their efforts and take the necessary measures to follow up on parliament’s approval of the maritime law.
On this note, it called on them to “assert the state’s role in defending Lebanon’s economic zone.”
Addressing the developments in Syria, the Mustaqbal bloc condemned the ongoing violence against the anti-regime protests.
“It is necessary to halt the violence without any delay to put an end to the crimes against humanity being committed against the civilians and hold those behind the crimes accountable,” it stressed.
