Maronite institutions warned on Wednesday lawmakers against the failure to elect a new president and the consequent vacuum in the country's top post.
They said: “Obstructing presidential elections sessions violates the constitution and the national pact.”
They made their statement after holding a meeting chaired by Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi at Bkirki.
Moreover, they cautioned that vacuum in the presidency will “paralyze constitutional institutions.”
The Maronite institutions announced they will keep their meetings open to determine their positions on the presidential elections.
The institutions included the Maronite League headed by Samir Abi Lamaa, the Maronite Foundation in the World headed by Michel Edde, and the Maronite General Council chaired by Wadi al-Khazen.
Parliament has so far failed to elect a new president over differences between the March 8 and 14 alliances.
Most of the March 8 camp's MPs have boycotted four rounds of elections over their call for an agreement on a consensual president.
A fifth round of polls is scheduled to be held Thursday before the expiry of President Michel Suleiman's six-year tenure.
