Suspect Arrested after 3 Dead, One Hurt in Shoot-Out near Brussels Jewish Museum
Three people were killed and one badly injured in a shoot-out Saturday near the Jewish Museum in Brussels city center, Belga news agency said, quoting firefighters' emergency services.
"I am shocked by the murders committed at the Jewish museum, I am thinking of the victims I saw there and their families," Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders said on Twitter.
A bystander, Alain Sobotic, told Agence France Presse he had seen the minister at the scene.
No information was immediately available from police on the circumstances of the shoot-out but Sobotic said he had seen two corpses just inside the doors of the museum, a young woman and a man.
Later in the evening, prosecutors said that police are questioning a "suspect" arrested after Saturday's deadly shooting.
"A person left the scene in their vehicle. We have identified and arrested them. But we do not know if they have a link to the events," a prosecution spokeswoman told a news conference, adding that the person was being "heard as a suspect".
Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo said earlier that Belgians stood "united... faced with this hateful attack on a Jewish cultural center."
The Jewish Museum of Belgium, which was not answering calls, is located in the heart of the Sablon district which is home to the city's top antique dealers.
