Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat stated on Monday that the imprisonment of a people intellectually and ideologically is no longer possible because it contradicts diversity that acts as the main guarantee for the survival of societies.
He said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa magazine: “The third dictator in the popular revolution has fallen and with him falls the theory of one-party rule that has demonstrated its historic failure before the will of the people who are longing for freedom, democracy, and dignity.”
He made his statements in light of the collapse of the rule of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.
“Experience has proven that all who have claimed false heroics, starting with former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein to toppled Tunisian President Zein al-Abidin Ben Ali, looked upon their people from their ivory towers, ordered their oppression, and then ran away like rats the minute the moment of truth was upon them,” Jumblat stressed.
“None of them dared to put up a fight, just like Gadhafi who claimed false heroics,” noted the MP.
“He should be put on trial before an international criminal court in cooperation with Libyan judiciary,” he added.
Furthermore, the PSP leader wondered why the Lebanese government has so far not recognized the Libyan National Transitional Council.
“Is it possible that some internal Lebanese powers were banking on the continuation of the Gadhafi regime and therefore are not seeking to recognize the council?” he asked.
