Bou Saab Announces Class Resumption at LU, Teachers Allowed to Boycott Correcting Exams

Minister of Education Elias Bou Saab announced on Thursday evening that classes at the Lebanese University will resume on Friday, after all obstacles in this regard “have been removed.”

"All obstacles have been removed concerning the Lebanese University's issues,” Bou Saab assured during a press conference he held at the Ministry.

He elaborated: “We reached an agreement that insures holding exams at the LU and contract teachers were given the right to abstain from correcting them if they were not contracted as full-time employees.”

The Minister then confirmed that classes will resume on Friday morning, noting that missed days can be compensated for “if needed.”

LU teachers had announced that they will not go back to the university and will not hold any exams until they are contracted as full-time employees.

A similar agreement was reached on Tuesday evening between Bou Saab and a delegation of public and private school teachers.

After a long heated debate, the conferees agreed on going forward with official exams, which were postponed for 24 hours, while correcting tests remained uncertain pending the adoption of the new wage scale by the parliament.
