The Lebanese army upped security measures near the Rafik Hariri University Hospital after alleged photos of militants being treated at the facility were leaked, al-Joumhouria newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The army also questioned physicians and nurses at the hospital to reveal the identity of the person who leaked the photos, the daily said.
A security official expressed fears that extremists would carry out an attack on the hospital to free the patients.
Al-Jadeed TV said Tuesday that the hospital is treating several terrorists from the al-Qaida-linked al-Nusra front and the Islamic State group.
The extremists were injured in the fighting between them and the Lebanese army in the northeastern border town of Arsal last month, it said.
The militants have beheaded two Lebanese soldiers who were seized after the fighters briefly overran Arsal.
They have taken several other soldiers and security forces members as captives.
