Report: 3 Wanted by Interpol Held, Including Dangerous Nusra Member

The General Directorate of State Security has arrested three fugitives wanted on Interpol warrants, al-Jadeed television reported on Saturday.

The three men include a “dangerous” member of the jihadist al-Nusra Front group, al-Qaida's official Syrian branch, al-Jadeed added.

It identified the man as Sami Mohammed Dib Bakir, aka Minaa.

“He is a Syrian who was born in Tal Kalakh” in the central Homs province near the border with Lebanon, al-Jadeed added.

Later on Saturday, state-run National News Agency confirmed that State Security has arrested a “dangerous fugitive” wanted on “several Interpol warrants.”

The army on Friday carried out raids in the northern city of Tripoli and arrested a Syrian man accused of belonging to a “terrorist” organization.

The raids came in the wake of alleged “moves by Nusra-linked armed groups,” Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) reported.

It said troops arrested Syrian national Adham Hajj Hamidi in Tripoli's Abi Samra on charges of belonging to a “terrorist group.”

Lebanon has been deeply affected by the war in neighboring Syria.

It hosts more than 1.1 million Syrian refugees, and fighting related to the conflict frequently breaks out in the tiny country.

Last month, jihadists from Nusra and the Islamic State took a number of Lebanese soldiers and police hostage after deadly battles in the Bekaa border town of Arsal. They subsequently beheaded two of the soldiers, sparking tensions and an uproar in the country.
