Al-Nusra Front Releases Hujeiri Family Member in Arsal

Al-Qaida-linked al-Nusra Front released on Tuesday a Lebanese man, several days after it kidnapped him for allegedly “disagreeing” with the terrorist group's political views, the state-run National News Agency said.

Hujeiri, who is also known as Ahmed Hadiya, hails from the northeastern border town of Arsal.

On Saturday, a security source told Agence France Presse that the gunmen kidnapped him "because he disagreed with their political views.”

An official in Arsal said Hujeiri was accused of "collaborating with Hizbullah.”

But NNA sad his kidnapping was the result of financial problems.

Arsal saw a fierce battle in August pitting the Lebanese army against jihadists from al-Nusra Front and the Islamic State (IS) group.

The fighting left scores of soldiers, civilians and jihadists dead. The militants, who withdrew to the Qalamoun mountains across the border, kidnapped Lebanese troops and policemen.

Two of the abducted troops have since been beheaded, despite attempts mediated through Qatar to solve the hostage crisis.

Also Tuesday, a Palestinian businessman, who was kidnapped in the town of Douris in the district of Baalbek, was released.

NNA said Mohammed Khaled Ismail, a Palestinian expatriate in Denmark, was set free a day after his abduction following the mediation of certain political parties.
