Two Lebanese nationals were charged with the embezzlement of Social Security funds and forgery, the state-run National News Agency reported on Friday.
The NNA said that General Director of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Mohammed Karaki accused before the Financial General Prosecution M. Sh and Aa. Sh. of embezzlement of the institution's funds and counterfeit.
The two men reportedly worked at an institution that closed its doors in 2006, however, they continued to present their employment documents before the NSSF's office located on the airport road area to claim benefits.
Karaki claimed that they forged the legal seals and the signature of the owner of the institution that shut down.
The General Director demanded their arrest and the return of the stolen money.
The NNSF warned that it stepped-up its measures against those who are exploiting its services.
NSSF provides employees with national insurance coverage for sickness, maternity care, family allowance, end-of-service pensions, work-related accidents and diseases.
Formal employees or laborers from any sector are eligible to enroll in the program.
These provisions are included in the Social Security Law enacted in 1963.
