Mix FM's 80's nights at the BO18 was transformed into a love festival because of a young and exceptional woman.
The evening, which was inspired by this year's Beirut Marathon slogan – Peace, Love, Run- Mix FM decided to dedicate the night of October 23 at the BO18 for peace and love, inviting people to come wearing their running shoes, as the days draw closer to the most anticipated running event of the year.
The night was also dedicated to Sara Khatib, an extraordinary young woman, who left this world on September 5, 2014 after a six-year struggle with cancer.
Sara, a pharmacy student at the Lebanese American University, was diagnosed with cancer, but she decided to face life's challenges and pain with open arms.
As Sara's health deteriorated, her arm had to be amputated; yet she continued facing life's challenges with open arm.
Her Thursday evening tradition at the BO18 continued. She kept on doing so during her treatment and would party with her friends all night long till the sun comes up and then go to her chemotherapy sessions.
The Beirut Marathon Association (BMA) and Mix FM agreed to add an extraordinary element to the peace and love edition, Sara's friends and family were invited to attend the event.
BMA president May el-Khalil and the Beirut Marathon team joined Sara's family and friends at the eve.
Mix FM has been the official radio station for the Beirut Marathon since 2005.
80’s night at BO18 is one of Lebanon's most prominent themed clubbing experiences.
Every Thursday night Roger Saad, known to most as DJ Rodge, spins the deck with the best tunes of the 80s.
On October 23 at 1:00 am a special video showing Sara's pictures played on screens.
DJ Rodge asked the crowd to pick up their phones and light them honoring Sara's memory.
"You guys have no clue how grateful we are, and how we're feeling right now," Sara's mother said to both DJ Rodge and the BMA president.
“Now we know that our little girl made it to the screens of her favorite nightclub... now we must continue the journey, armed with love, to run for her dreams, for everything she stands for and for the courage she faced life's adversities with.”
The Beirut Marathon opened exclusive registration up until Sunday October 26 through Ihjoz.com for people who wish to run on November 9 in memory of Sara or anyone who has lost their battle with cancer, or for those still fighting the good fight.
The special sticker of the night had the tagline “Pain is Inevitable, Suffering is Optional".
Everyone wore the stickers on their shirts and more than 45 people registered their names to run on November 9 for love.
