The Lebanese army said on Thursday it has arrested two terrorist leaders involved in attacks on the military during the clashes in northern Lebanon last month.
An army communique said the military intelligence apprehended on Wednesday Ayman Abdul Hamid Mheish who leads a terrorist group that was involved in a plot to kidnap Lebanese soldiers in the town of Bhannine on October 25.
The same group fired a grenade at a military vehicle, leaving several soldiers injured, it said.
“Most of the terrorist group's members have been arrested,” the communique added.
Also Wednesday, the army arrested Osama Yehya Bakhash who leads a terrorist group that ambushed soldiers in Bhannine on October 26.
Four soldiers were killed in the attack while Bakhash was injured, said the communique.
The rest of his network's members are on the run, it added.
The gunbattles between the army and terrorists in the northern city of Tripoli, Bhannine and surrounding areas have left dozens of fighters, soldiers and civilians dead and injured.
The clashes erupted after the military arrested during a raid Ahmed Miqati who has admitted to plotting a ground offensive along with accomplices from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant to control vast territories in northern Lebanon and establish an emirate there.
