Series of Flooding in Lebanon Continue due to Rain: Citizens Trapped for Hours in Tunnels and Car Accidents Occur
It is not the first time that citizens get trapped inside their cars on the streets due to the floods caused by the rain. On Saturday, they were trapped for hours inside the tunnels of Beirut that witnessed traffic jams and several accidents.
In the tunnel towards Khalde, the citizens were entrapped inside their cars for hours as the rescue teams and ambulances worked on withdrawing them.
According to the traffic control, due to the storm the Airport-Khalde Road was closed from both directions because of the accumulation of water inside the tunnels, then it was reopened. But the traffic jam remained the same in different areas.
On the road towards Chouaifat- al-Hadath beside the Lebanese University the flooding led to a stifling traffic jam.
Moreover, a car on the highway of al-Naameh towards the south fell over and injuries were recorded and the Red Cross vehicles came to the scene.
On the Barbara highway towards the north, a person was killed due to a shocking accident.
While in Nahr al-mout, the ambulance teams worked on rescuing the citizens trapped inside their cars.
The Maritime Rescue teams also worked on rescuing the citizens stuck in their cars that sunk in pools of water along the road facing the electricity company in al-Zouk.
City Center mall in Hazmieh has been evacuated due to power outages on it for more than two hours.
According to Electricite du Liban: “Entire Lebanon is witnessing a blackout due to the disconnection of the network because of thunderbolts and workers have started repairing the damages.”
