Geagea Travels to Saudi for 2nd Time in Less Than 2 Months

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea left Sunday for Saudi Arabia for talks with top Saudi officials.

Geagea left “on an official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, during which he will meet with senior Saudi officials,” the LF leader's press office said in a brief statement.

Geagea had made a similar visit to the Gulf kingdom on November 20. He met with al-Mustaqbal movement leader MP Saad Hariri and Saudi officials during that trip.

The LF leader said Hariri did not manage to convince him during their talks of backing the extension of parliament's term but his MPs were among 95 lawmakers who voted in favor of the move.

Geagea's second visit comes amid continued presidential vacuum in Lebanon that had started on May 25 with the end of Michel Suleiman's six-year term.

Hizbullah and the Free Patriotic Movement have been boycotting electoral sessions over their rejection of Geagea's presidential nomination, which was officially endorsed by the March 14 camp.

Geagea has recently called on FPM leader MP Michel Aoun to engage in talks with him over a possible compromise candidate.
