Geagea Says 'Serious' Dialogue with Aoun Aims to Limit Tension

Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea said Wednesday the expected dialogue with his rival Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun is “serious.”

“Dialogue with FPM chief MP Michel Aoun is serious and not just limited to the presidency. It goes beyond that,” Geagea told a delegation of LF engineers who visited him in Maarab.

The talks aim at soothing political tension in the country similar to the dialogue taking place between al-Mustaqbal movement and Hizbullah, he said.

No date has been yet set for the talks between Aoun and Geagea. But both presidential candidates have expressed readiness to meet.

Al-Mustaqbal and Hizbullah representatives held a meeting under Speaker Nabih Berri's auspices in Ain el-Tineh last week.

The second round of talks is expected to be held on January 5 to limit Sunni-Shiite tension and discuss the presidential deadlock.

Lebanon has been without a president since May. The rival March 8 and 14 alliances have failed to elect a successor to President Michel Suleiman over their differences on a compromise candidate.
