Mustaqbal Urges Govt. to Take 'Clear Decision' on Hizbullah 'Violations' Abroad

Al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc on Thursday urged the government to take a clear decision regarding what it called “Hizbullah's violations and interference in the affairs of others,” as it urged it to speed up the trials of the Islamist prisoners in the Roumieh prison.

In a statement issued after its weekly meeting, the bloc praised the “wise and firm procedures taken by the government represented by its Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq and the Internal Security Forces Intelligence Branch, backed by the Lebanese army, which ended the abnormal situation at the Roumieh prison.”

"The important achievement proves once again that the government is the only force that must have the exclusivity of sovereignty across Lebanon,” it added.

It stressed that “the government must preserve this sovereignty and protect it, and it must not accept the presence of terrorism hotspots on our soil which pose a threat to Lebanon.”

Al-Mustaqbal also urged the government and the judiciary to “expedite the investigations and the trials of prisoners, and enhance the humanitarian and security situation of the Lebanese prisons so they do not become a place to promote extremism, violence and crime.”

On Monday, security forces took full control of Roumieh prison's block B after storming the overcrowded facility and seizing illegal items from Islamist prisoners, who were all transferred to block D.

About the dialogue with Hizbullah, the bloc stressed the importance of “activating dialogue,” describing it as “the only way to reach common grounds and address existing obstacles.”

It also hoped the dialogue will help “defuse tensions, spare Lebanon the flames of the regional blaze, and make progress on the path of agreeing on a consensual president.”

Al-Mustaqbal also commented on the Gulf Cooperation Council's response to Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah's “attacks” against Bahrain and “his interference in an unaccepted way in its internal affairs.”

"We share the condemnations of our brothers in the GCC,” it added.

It also asked the government and the Foreign Ministry to “take a clear decision regarding this violation.”

“The Lebanese did not see from the GCC anything other than help and solidarity with the country and its army and they were always with the unity and stability of the Lebanese, so it is not accepted to reward them with an attempt to destabilize their nations,” the statement went on to say.

The bloc also noted that “Hizbullah insisted in the past years to interfere in the affairs of others, once through its weapons as in Syria and Iraq, and another through media and its secretary-general's speeches, in the vein of his latest speech about Bahrain.”

Following Nasrallah's speech about Bahrain's protests, the GCC described his stances as “an incitement to violence and discord.”

Bahrain had on Sunday summoned the Lebanese charge d'affaire, asking for a “clear condemnation” of Nasrallah's stances.
