Soldiers Suffer from Suffocation after Israeli Troops Toss Teargas in Aita al-Shaab

The army announced on Sunday that three of its soldiers suffered from suffocation after Israeli troops at the border tossed teargas bombs at their military position.

It said in a statement that the incident took place near the Aita al-Shaab area in the South.

Israeli troops, riding in four military vehicles, tossed two teargas canisters near the technical fence in Aita al-Shaab, causing three soldiers to suffer suffocation.

No reasons for the incident were disclosed.

Media reports had earlier reported that the Israeli forces had tossed smoke bombs in the area.

Soon after, United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon spokesman Andrea Tenenti announced that the Lebanese army informed the international force of the development in Aita al-Shaab, reported the National News Agency.

UNIFIL forces were immediately sent to the area to investigate the incident, he added, while noting that the situation is calm.

Earlier, NNA reported that an Israeli military unit was carrying out a sweep of the region between the Kfarshouba heights, al-Abbassiyeh, and al-Wazzani.

Its activity was accompanied by Israeli drones flights over the occupied Shebaa Farms and Golan Heights.

A number of border incidents have taken place between Lebanon and Israel over the years.

Most recently, Hizbullah claimed in October responsibility for a blast on the Shebaa Farms border that wounded two Israeli soldiers.

The attack prompted a retaliation by Israel, which fired artillery shells at a number of positions in Shebaa, the nearby Kfarshouba Hills, and al-Saddaneh area.
