Briton Held for Killing German who Filmed Daughter in Spain

Spanish police said Monday they arrested a British man accused of killing a German for filming his young daughter in a restaurant in a posh seaside resort.

The Briton, aged 40, attacked the 43-year-old German after seeing him filming the minor with a tablet device in the restaurant near the yacht-packed port in Sotogrande on Spain's Costa del Sol on Saturday night.

"The girl's father got up and went to the table where the victim was," a source in the Civil Guard police force in the city of Algeciras told Agence France-Presse, citing witnesses.

"He took the tablet off him, saw that there were recordings of his daughter, and that was when the attack took place."

The source said no weapons were involved in the attack. The German was taken to hospital where he died and police were waiting for the results of an autopsy.

The British man left the restaurant after the attack but was arrested later after being identified by witnesses.

He was in police custody on suspicion of homicide and was waiting to go before a magistrate in the nearby town of La Linea de la Concepcion.

The Civil Guard said in a statement that the man who was killed had been arrested a few days earlier for possession of child pornography.

The source said it was thought that the two men did not know each other. It was not known whether the attacker knew of the earlier child porn accusations.

With big houses and golf courses overlooking the blue waters of the Mediterranean, Sotogrande is one of the most upmarket resorts in a southern region popular with British tourists.
