The coordinator of the Kataeb Party's Central Committee, MP Sami Gemayel, has reportedly resigned from his post at the party, which was approved.
According to al-Akhbar newspaper published on Saturday, Sami's resignation comes in light of a decision by party leader Amin Gemayel to cancel the position, which was established after the assassination of then Industry Minister Pierre Gemayel in November 21, 2006.
The Kataeb's politburo approved Amin Gemayel's decision.
“Sami Gemayel stepped down from his post once he knew about Amin's intention to cancel it,” al-Akhbar added.
Sami is known for his controversial stances that caused some trouble among the ranks of the Kataeb party.
