Report: Dahiyeh Security Plan Will Be Implemented in Two Weeks

Security forces and agencies are preparing to implement a security plan Beirut's southern suburbs of Dahiyeh, a Hizbullah stronghold, reported al-Akhbar newspaper on Saturday.

Security sources told the daily that the plan will be implemented “within two weeks.”

“The plan has not yet been studied or completely approved, but the lack of objections from any of the concerned sides can be taken as a sign that it will be adopted,” they continued.

“The plan was addressed during the dialogue between the Mustaqbal Movement and Hizbullah that is being sponsored by Speaker Nabih Berri,” they revealed.

Moreover, the sources said that the Dahiyeh security plan differs from the one that was implemented in the eastern Bekaa region “because the suburbs do not harbor dangerous fugitives or any suspects that are granted political protection.”

“The plan will be implemented by the army and security forces and does not require coordination with Hizbullah,” they stressed.

“The party will not intervene unless there is a problem that requires its presence on the ground,” they told al-Akhbar.

Meanwhile, a party source told al-Mustaqbal daily on Saturday that the plan “will be met with several sensitive obstacles seeing as several Hizbullah leaders live in Dahiyeh and several of its centers are situated there.”

“This reality requires coordination between the security forces and the party,” they explained.

Earlier this week, media reports said that Hizbullah informed concerned officials that it can no longer tolerate the “repercussions of the proliferation of arms” in its stronghold, in particular after the clashes between al-Jaafar and Zoaiter families in Burj al-Barajneh and the spread of crimes “which only the state can combat.”
