Spanish police arrested a British man who has admitted killing his partner, missing since September in a region of Spain popular with foreign tourists, a police source said on Tuesday.
The man confessed to the killing on Monday and on Tuesday morning led officers to the woman's body near the eastern city of Alicante, the source told AFP on condition of anonymity.
"He was questioned and admitted the charges against him" of killing the woman, the source said.
The source said the couple were both British but declined to identify them or give their ages.
"He helped them find the location of the victim's body and they found it in an advanced state of decomposition," the source said. "They are waiting for the autopsy results."
The man was to be handed over to the courts.
Spanish media citing sources close to the investigation said he was thought to have killed the woman with a blunt object, then hidden her body in a field near the seaside city.
