Army Defuses Bomb in Border Town of Abboudiyeh

A military expert dismantled on Saturday a bomb located in the border town of al-Abboudiyeh in the northern district of Akkar, the state-run National News Agency reported.

NNA said that a suspicious body was found in a parking lot in the town.

An army expert arrived swiftly at the area and inspected the body, which turned out to be a bomb.

The army later issued a communique saying that the bomb was placed inside a bag on a roadside in al-Abboudiyeh.

“An army unit immediately cordoned off the area as a military expert arrived at the scene to inspect the bomb,” the army command said in a statement.

The military said that the bomb, which was defused, weighs 20 kilograms.

Investigations are underway to unveil the identities of the culprits.

Lebanon became ensnared in the complex conflict of the near four-year war in Syria after militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and the al-Qaida-affiliate al-Nusra Front engaged in a bloody fighting with the Lebanese army in August and took with them hostages from the military and police.

The nearby border is long and porous, and has proved an easy crossing point for smugglers, refugees and fighters.
