Report: More Lebanese to be Deported from UAE
More Lebanese expats are expected to be expelled from the United Arab Emirates in the upcoming weeks, al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Monday.
Sources following up the conditions of the Lebanese community in UAE quoted officials as saying that the deportation decision will include 120 Lebanese nationals in the upcoming weeks.
UAE's decision to deport Lebanese expats from the Gulf country is reportedly related to their staunch support to Hizbullah and its allies.
On Sunday, several Lebanese deported from UAE arrived in Beirut for the second day in a row.
Most of the expats have been residing in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.
The move reportedly is to retaliate a speech by Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah which contained a strong attack against countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Dubai's ruler and vice president of UAE Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashed al-Maktoum stressed on Saturday during talks with Prime Minister Tammam Salam on the sidelines of an economic conference in Sharm el-Sheikh that there is no official decision to target Lebanese in the Gulf country.
UAE hosts more than 100,000 Lebanese workers.
Hundreds of Lebanese, mostly Shiite Muslims, have been quietly deported from the UAE since 2009. Deportations of Shiites from oil-rich Gulf states rose in 2013 after Hizbullah joined Syrian government forces in Syria's civil war.
