Judge Charges Four Human Traffickers

Four individuals were charged on Monday for facilitating the illegal travel of migrants to Italy via Libya, the state-run National News Agency reported.

South Lebanon Prosecutor Judge Rahif Ramdan issued the charges against Palestinian Hasiba al-Hussein, and Lebanese Ghinwa Abou Zainab and Rita Razzouq, who were detained last week in the port city of Sidon, said NNA.

Ramadan also issued in absentia charges against Sudanese Mohammed al-Makkawi, the agency said.

The judge issued arrest warrants against the four suspects for facilitating the smuggling of several Lebanese and Palestinians to Italy on a ferry traveling from Libya, NNA added.

The ferry carrying the illegal migrants sank off the port of Sabratha last week.

Media reports said that the migrants had been leaving Lebanon to Sudan illegally then entering Libya through the desert and off to Italy via the sea.
