A plainclothes police officer was seriously wounded by a gunshot to the head in New York, police said Saturday.
The 25-year-old police officer Brian Moore was shot in the head while inside his car in the city, police commissioner Bill Bratton said during a press conference, describing it as a serious injury.
The officer had surgery after being admitted to the hospital.
According to Bratton, Moore and another officer were in an unmarked car when they saw a man adjust something on his belt, who they approached.
The man fired immediately, Bratton said, while the two officers were still in the car.
The alleged shooter was arrested just over an hour later, police said.
This is the fifth shooting of an officer in New York in five months.
In December, two officers were shot dead in their car in New York by a man who then committed suicide.
That shooting was seemingly motivated by anger over the death of an unarmed black man killed by New York police.
