The Lebanese army said Thursday it has arrested several people suspected of opening fire and attempting to escape from a military patrol in the southern city of Sidon.

A military communique said the unit apprehended the four citizens and three Palestinians in the area of al-Taamir.

“As part of its role to preserve security and stability, army units also arrested 42 Syrians and two Iraqis in the areas of Dinniyeh, Koura and Anjar for entering the country illegally and not carrying legal documents,” it added.

The detainees were referred to the involved authorities to take the appropriate measures against them.
