Education Minister Hassan Mneimneh said the success of the Saudi-Syrian initiative requires "guarantees by some regional and international countries that have direct influence on developments in the region."
Mneimneh told the Kuwaiti al-Anbaa daily that the initiative requires a lot of efforts to succeed and such guarantees have not been made yet "because Iran and the United States are using the settlement to make gains on each other."
"The issue is not about the government. It is about how to implement" the regional agreement on solving the Lebanese crisis, he said.
"The issue of government change is still premature" and such a transformation "won't be made unless the signs of the Saudi-Syrian settlement begin appearing," Mneimneh added.
In remarks to Voice of Lebanon radio on Monday, Mneimneh said officials should work to reactivate government institutions.
"Those who paralyzed the cabinet over false witnesses did not benefit from anything," he said.
"Pending issues should be solved by different sides on the table of the cabinet and not through the boycott" of government sessions, the minister added.
