Security Agencies on Alert in Wake of Kuwait, Tunisia Attacks

Security agencies have intensified their measures throughout Lebanon in light of Friday's terror attacks in Kuwait and Tunisia, reported As Safir newspaper on Saturday.

A security source told the daily that the agencies went on alert in anticipation of the occurrence of new terrorist attacks.

Heightened measures were taken at border regions and places of worship, “especially since dormant terror cells could take advantage of the tense situation” in Lebanon, most notably in the wake of the recent Roumieh Prison abuse scandal, explained the source.

Thirty-seven people were killed in a shooting at a Tunisian hotel in the coastal town of Sousse on Friday.

In Kuwait, an Islamic State suicide bomber killed 25 people at a Shiite mosque and a suspected Islamist attacked a factory in France.

On Sunday, video clips emerged of prison guards abusing inmates at Roumieh, Lebanon's largest and most over-crowded jail.

The five guards have since been detained and charged for their offenses.
