Report: Army Tightening Noose of Gunmen on Arsal's Outskirts

The Lebanese army succeeded on Friday in thwarting six gunmen from entering Lebanon through the northeastern border town of Arsal, killing two, while the rest escaped, revealed al-Joumhouria newspaper on Saturday.

A military source told the daily: “The army is tightening the noose around the gunmen on Arsal's outskirts.”

“It is taking all measures that would protect the region,” it added.

“The army has succeeded in stopping all infiltration attempts” from Syria, it continued.

On Friday, Hizbullah also stopped an armed group from infiltrating Lebanese territories from an area between al-Alali and al-Abyad mountains in the eastern mountain range.

The army frequently shells the positions of gunmen situated on the porous Lebanese-Syrian border, halting their advancement towards Lebanese territory.
