A bomb placed in a rubbish container at the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon exploded late Monday, leaving eight people injured, a Palestinian security official told Agence France Presse.
"An explosion took place in the Ain al-Hilweh camp around 9:30 pm, injuring eight people, one of whom was gravely injured," said Maher Chabayta, a representative of Fatah Movement in the camp.
The seriously injured person was the dustman, he added.
Ain al-Hilweh near the southern city of Sidon is home to about 50,000 refugees and is known to harbor extremists and fugitives.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) estimates that some 425,000 Palestinian refugees are living in Lebanon.
Others, however, estimate the number to be closer to 250,000.
