Israel has arrested five Palestinians accused of involvement in the murder of an Israeli in the occupied West Bank last month, the Shin Bet internal security service said Wednesday.
The alleged shooter, Mohammed Abu Shaheen, belonged to an armed group linked to Fatah, the party of Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas, Shin Beth said.
Four alleged accomplices were also arrested over the June 19 attack that killed Danny Gonen, 25, and wounded another Israeli near Dolev settlement in the vicinity of Ramallah.
The pair were not settlers but hikers who had come from Lod in central Israel, authorities said.
West Bank settlements are considered illegal under international law, and Israelis have been attacked in and around them as well as in annexed east Jerusalem.
