Hassan’s Promotion May Be Delayed to 2012

President Michel Suleiman approved on Friday promotions of Internal Security Forces officers ranked up to colonel, in a measure that was approved by ISF chief Ashraf Rifi and Premier Najib Miqati.

Official sources told the daily An Nahar in remarks published on Saturday that the development has not settled the dispute over the promotion of ISF Intelligence Bureau chief Brigadier General Wissam al-Hassan, noting that a procedure could be adopted that would allow his promotion to be effective in 2012.

The promotions do not include officers ranked above colonel, but a proposal on the matter was made by Rifi.

He made the suggestion to Interior Minister Marwan Charbel who is yet to approve it, they added.

The proposal has not yet been relayed to Prime Minister Najib Miqati, they continued.

Meanwhile, Public Works and Transportation Minister Ghazi Aridi stressed that promotions should encompass all ISF officers, urging officials to “issue the necessary decree without delay and not wrong any of those who deserve the promotion,” reported the daily al-Liwaa Saturday.

Mustqabal bloc MP Ahmed Fatfat revealed that Charbel informed him that a solution to the promotion of officers ranked colonel and above is being devised, reported As Safir newspaper Saturday.
