Report: Jumblat re-Confirmed his Centrist Position with Tilt towards March 14

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat confirmed on Sunday his centrist position with a clear tilt towards the March 14-led opposition, An Nahar newspaper reported.

“Jumblat was a forerunner in specifying the principles and the roadmap concerning the situation in Syria,” sources told the daily on Monday.

On Sunday, Jumblat chaired the PSP’s general assembly in Aley.

The sources added that Jumblat “confirmed his stance from Hizbullah’s arms.”

According to al-Liwaa, Jumblat’s stances will affect both the March 8 and March 14 camps.

Jumblat said in his speech that the funding of the STL is “essential” for stability in the country.

The PSP leader announced that he will not compete for the PSP leadership when elections are next held.

The sources told An Nahar that “he wants to modernize the party by ending political heredity.”

However, a source from the party told al-Liwaa that some party members refused the talk about ending the political heredity because Jumblat “represents a sentimental symbol for the party, and because the party needs him at this critical stage.”
