'Family' of Skeletons Found in Japan House

The skeletal remains of three people were found in a house in northern Japan, police said Friday, amid reports a family suicide could have gone unnoticed for up to a year.

The bodies were discovered in a two-storey house in Sendai after court officials visited the premises as part of a dispute the occupants had with the landlord over rent, Kyodo news reported.

"Three skeletonized bodies" were found Wednesday in Sendai city, a spokesman for police in the area told Agence France Presse, adding that they remained unidentified.

Kyodo said the house was occupied by a 62-year-old man, his 55-year-old wife and their daughter, 19.

It said police suspected family suicide and autopsies indicated the three had died between six and 12 months ago.
