The army condemned on Saturday some media reports that said that army trucks had entered Syrian territory and some “foreign political powers’ interpretation of this development as a sign of the army’s interference in the ongoing events in Syria.
It said in a statement: “The Lebanese army trucks’ entry to Syrian territory is normal and it happens from time to time.”
“They enter Syria in order to acquire spare parts for military vehicles and obtain logistic equipment for the army,” it added.
It stressed that these actions are part of the coordination agreements signed between the two countries.
“Concluding that the presence of army vehicles in Syrian territory means that it is meddling in Syrian developments is a figment of one’s imagination and defamation against the army,” it continued.
“Refraining from interfering in foreign affairs is at the core of the army’s values,” stressed the statement.
“The army command hopes that the sides concerned would not drag the army’s name in affairs it has nothing to do with,” it said.
It urged them to seek the army’s counsel in any report related to the military institution in order to correctly relay the facts to the people.
