UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti on Friday ruled out an imminent war between Israel and Hizbullah and said peacekeepers hadn't detected Hizbullah rearmament south of the Litani river.
In remarks to Voice of Lebanon, the Voice of Freedom and Dignity, radio station, Tenenti reassured the Lebanese that "the situation in the south is very calm."
He stressed that relations between UNIFIL and southerners were "more than good" and the peacekeepers' ties with the Lebanese army were "excellent."
Tenenti reiterated the U.N. peacekeeping force was not authorized to deal with Lebanese-Israeli disputes arising over maritime boundaries.
Asked about Israel's possible pullout from the Lebanese part of the border village of Ghajar, the spokesman said: "We haven't yet been notified by Israel about the date of withdrawal from the northern part of Ghajar."
Israel wants to hand over the security authority of the area to UNIFIL, he said.
