Speaker Nabih Berri held a meeting on Wednesday with President Michel Suleiman at Baabda palace to discuss the possibility of the resumption of the dialogue between the Lebanese foes.
A presidential statement said Suleiman and Berri discussed the latest developments and ways to restart the all-party talks.
Berri left Baabda after the 1 hour meeting without making any statement.
The speaker told An Nahar newspaper published on Wednesday that he’s holding onto the decisions that were taken during the previous sessions of the national dialogue.
“I’m not denying them and I agree on implementing those decisions according to principles,” he stressed.
The speaker wondered if “it’s normal for him to refuse the resumption of the all-party talks, while he was the one calling for it, which saved Lebanon and united its position during the 2006 war.”
Berri has continuously urged officials to resume the national dialogue between the Lebanese parties to safeguard Lebanon amid the turmoil in the region.
“We are in desperate need for this dialogue between the Lebanese parties especially during the developments in the region and the neighboring countries,” he reiterated.
Berri said in his comments to An Nahar that “if the situation in Syria deteriorated then the volcano that is threatening Lebanon will affect everyone.”
“We should carefully examine every step we take in order to fortify the country and safeguard it,” he added.
