Government is scheduled to convene at the Baabda Palace on Thursday with 57 articles on its agenda, the most prominent of which is the appointment of Fouad Khoury as deputy director of general security, reported the daily al-Liwaa on Thursday.
The appointment was suggested by Interior Minister Marwan Charbel seeing as Khoury is the longest serving officer at the General Security Department and he is among the six officers who joined the department in recent months at an order by the Shura Council.
Cabinet is expected to hold a second session on Friday to discuss the parliamentary electoral draft law and the law on the restoration of nationality of Lebanese residing abroad, reported the daily An Nahar on Thursday.
It said that the nationality law holds significance, especially in light of Christian forces’ agreement on the necessity of approving it.
This issue was brought up a few weeks ago when Maronite bishops abroad urged Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi, during his recent U.S. visit, to tackle this matter, the daily added.
Contacts were made in Beirut to ensure that the law would be approved.
