Aoun Urges Syrians to Resort to Ballot Boxes and not Bullets

Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun urged the Syrian people on Saturday to resort to dialogue rather than violence saying they should hold onto ballot boxes and not bullets.

Addressing a delegation of Syrian women that visited him at his residence in Rabieh, Aoun said: “The Syrian people should not go through the same experience of the Lebanese in the 1970s.”

“I urge the Syrian people to ask for dialogue and not violence. We don’t need bullet boxes … we need ballot boxes,” he said.

Aoun slammed the international community for claiming that it is supporting human rights in Syria.

“How would I believe the international community that it wants human rights while it supports the violent movement in Syria?” the MP wondered.

He was referring to the protests against the Assad regime which claims they are carried out by extremists and terrorists and not true reformers.

“We seek to enlighten the public opinion to avoid falling the victim of terror and fear imposed by major powers that are seeking to change the region’s map,” Aoun said.

He also told the delegation in reference to Israel that Lebanon and Syria have a single enemy that wants to impose its own peace in the region.
