The Lebanese Forces denied on Wednesday media reports alleging that the party had vetoed the participation of the Kataeb party in the upcoming government.
“The LF did not put any veto on Kataeb nor on any other party,” an LF statement said.
“Although the LF is keen on a balanced government lineup, but it is mainly focused on its situation inside the government, amid the systematic war staged against the party in an attempt to intimidate it and then expel it, or to dwarf its national presence inside the cabinet,” added the statement.
Political parties have reportedly agreed on the distribution of ministerial portfolios and Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri is expected to announce a new cabinet soon.
The latest obstacle that was hampering the formation of a cabinet was the allotment of a key portfolio for the Marada Movement after insisting to be given one of three, the telecommunications, public works or energy.
Speaker Nabih Berri agreed recently to concede the public works portfolio to Franjieh in what he described as a step to “ease the differences and faciliate the formation process.”
