Mohammed Monzer was on Wednesday sentenced to 22 years in jail after he was convicted of shooting dead his wife, Ruqayya Monzer, media reports said.
Monzer was also ordered to pay the woman's family 180 million Lebanese pounds in compensations, LBCI television said.
Ruqayya, a mother of a boy and a girl, was killed during pregnancy on the eve of Mother's Day in 2014.
According to her sister, the woman had asked for divorce after years of abuse at the hands of her husband.
“She was continuously asking him for divorce but he was threatening her with murdering their children,” the sister says.
Several women have been killed at the hands of their husbands in recent years, sparking protests and demands for tougher laws against domestic violence.
